True, you read IPL and dermatology is the first thing that comes to mind, but IPL just happens to be a more versatile technology than most people would think.
For some time, it has been used to treat chronic dry eye disease and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction of the eyelids using its pulses to liquefy and release hardened oils that have clogged meibomian glands in the eyelids and also affecting vascularization and inflammation of the eyelids helping restore them to regular working condition.
Our tears usually contain oils that keeps them from evaporating but, overproduction of these oils or underproduction of the water element of our tears can lead to the oils remaining in the glands and solidfying after some time which would clog the glands and impeed the expulsion of tears to keep our eyes lubricated which could damage them over time.
The treatment itself is somewhat straight-forward, the eyes are shileded to avoid damage and cooling gel is applied to the treatment area and then the pulses are directed to the area around the eyelids. The heat generated by these pulses will help liquefy and loosen the oils that clog the meibomian glands and, afterwards, the doctor will be able to extract said oils manually from the glands to restore proper eye lubrication.
Follow up sessions would be needed but being the procedure so easy and quick to perform with the help of an IPL machine, it’s less of an issue for those who suffer it.

And what about LED based skin rejuvenation?

LED therapy has become one of the most used solution for skin rejuvenation treatments since it has painless and fast results paired up with minimal risks and side effects. It has also been one of the most scientifically tested tools and, so far it has passed every single test with flying colors which is why we have decided to incorporate the Multishape machine in our roster of products, a machine that includes the LED tool in a bundle with other safe and highly effective technologies such as motorized rollers, infrared, Bi-Polar radio frequency (RF) and Vacuum. All of these, used together, ensures an effective and safe treatment for the patient.

By treating an area with streams of LED light aimed deep into the skin, the cellular movement of human cells creating adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is increased which helps accelerate the collagen and elastin production dramatically and, in turn, your skin will have better tone and elasticity and also removes the bacteria that causes acne by closing dead pores on the skin.

In addition to all these positive effects, Multishape increases the scope of the treatment results by adding other effects to the treated area which improves the results as, for example, the use of vacuum which allows to accurately aim at the target area, bi-polar radio frequency which heats tissue up at a deeper level and motorized rollers which help circulation and lymphatic drainage of the treated area.

Because of all the different skin ailments that can be treated with this technology it’s always best to seek professional counsel with a skin specialist or a dermatologist so your skin can be properly diagnosed and the extent of the treatment can be accurately determined for better results. Also, it’s highly recommended to cleanse your skin prior to treatment to increase it’s effectiveness.

Other Tripolar RF benefits

Among the different effects of the Tripolar radio frequency technology is the generation of new collagen of the same quality as the one we produce in our youth which generates the so sought after “lifting” effect which also prevents and helps decrease skin aging.
Other effects that come with an tripolar radio frequency treatment are:
Detox: The heat generated also helps toxins to get decomposed into smaller particles which makes the drainage process through the lymphatic system considerably easier.
Nurtures and oxygenates: other side effect of the treatment is the blood flow improvement in and around the treated area which brings oxygen and nutrients in higher concentrations.
Besides these benefits, which will make your skin look healthier, shinier and younger, there are also some other results and anesthetic improvements that can be achieved with these treatments, such as:
  • Reduction of under-eye bags
  • Reduction of double chin
  • Stronger and firmer skin
  • Smoothing of expression marks and wrinkles
  • Reduction of the nasolabial furrows
  • Raised eyebrows and firmer eyelids
  • Fresh and rested face
  • Higher cheeks
  • Firmer face skin and better defined contour
A suggestion that we encourage patients to undergo when getting treatments with TriPolar radio frequency is to accompany the treatments with a healthy diet and an increased intake of liquids to make the reduction of fat faster and easier and to help drain all the toxins. Also, daily 30 minute walks would make wonders in tandem with the sessions.

RF TriPollar Technology

What is it? One of the biggest advances in esthetical medicine made in quite a while! Using a TriPollar system to emit specific radio frequencies to the target area allows the machine to model and contour your body by using a contrloled heat to destroy lipid tissue beneath your skin, improve your tone by increasing the amount and type of collagen produced by your body or even help your body get rid of dissolved fat through your lymphatic system with a quite painless and non-invasive treatment. All this in a very comfortable treatment and with a very low risk of burns (different from the bipolar RF)

How does it do it? With the use of electrodes, waves of specific frequencies are delivered to the target areas which in turn creates alternating vibrations that cause the fat layer to heat up to between 40 and 41 degrees Celsius; this localized heat, when aimed at the right spot, can toughen up your natural collagen without damaging it (like bipolar RF does), dissolve fatty tissue and makes said fat get dumped out of your body… and don’t worry about the heat, thanks to the way it is aimed and generated, it’s focused under your skin at specific points and intervals so there’s no risk of getting burned.

TriPollar? What about Bipolar or Monopolar systems? That’s the great thing about TriPolar, it’s got the strengths of both and none of the weaknesses; monopolar creates a weaker signal and bipolar creates a strong signal that’s hard to aim to specific points for treatment, with TriPollar you get pinpoint accuracy to treat an area without risk and a strong enough signal to work fast and efficiently.

So… how is it done? Before treatment the patient must remove all metallic objects since these can interfere with the signal, then, the skin is thoroughly cleaned, lubricating oil is applied and, finally, the treatment can begin. The treatment in itself is just the technician using the applicator on the area to be treated with gentle and circular movements for an amount of time specified by the type of skin and other characteristics of the treated area. It’s also worth noting that the procedure is completely safe and painless.

Fast, safe and painless… great! So, what uses does it have? That’s another advantage; it has various applications, all which are highly sought after! It can be used for facial rejuvenation, improve skin tone, body contouring, fat reduction and reducing cellulitis.

All in all, is it a safe investment? Yeah, pretty much… the machine has a low to average cost compared to similar ones used for these treatments, its low risk and painless, it gives great results quickly and its effects tend to be long lasting so you can pretty much count on a lot of repeat-business and referrals from content customers.  Ah, and don’t forget the TriPollar technology is a proprietary technology own by Pollogen and used in all their products, any other product claiming to be Tripolar will be just a poor imitation without the actual results and benefits.

A little more on tattoo removal

In our last article we went over a couple of facts of what the tattoo removal process involves but there are a couple of things more to be said about all that comes after you make the decision to get rid of a tattoo. There are many factors that may improve the outcome of the treatment so here’s a list of things to keep in mind:

The laser used in the treatment will be detrimental in the success rate of the treatment; newer systems like Q-Tek are more effective than other machines, remember to ask the technician about the machine, its success rate and its efficiency.

This one might seem obvious but many people doesn’t take into consideration; larger tattoos will take longer and more sessions to erase than smaller ones. As we said, it seems kind of obvious but some people believe that the laser affects large areas at once so we’d rather make the observation.

Different ink colors and brands react different to treatment so remember to take this into account when planning your schedule for your treatment sessions; dark colors are easier to remove than bright ones since dark ones absorb the laser’s light wavelength better. If your tattoo has several colors, ask the technician who would perform the treatment if the machine has multiple wavelengths to ensure that it will be able to completely delete the tattoo.

The ink used in tattoos, no matter which brand it is, will eventually fade over time and if the tattoo you wish to erase is old and faded it will take considerably less time.

The location where the tattoo was made will also have some impact on how many treatments are needed to get rid of it; tattoos made in areas with little blood flow, like feet and hands, will take longer to erase than those made on your arm, chest or upper back and its location will also affect how uncomfortable the procedure might be.

Tattoo be gone!

“Tattooed regrets” this is one of those things that stopped being a problem some time ago when it was realized that laser technology could be used to get rid of those, previously “permanent” decisions.

Basically, a high intensity laser beam is targeted at the ink pigments to break them up and make them disappear. The procedure is simple but there are a couple of thing you should know:

–          To completely eliminate the tattoo, you’re going to need more than one session. The ink in your skin is going to get lighter and lighter as sessions go on until it just fades away.

–          The time it takes to eliminate the tattoo will vary depending on the color of your skin, colors on the tattoo, the tone and amount of ink used on it and the depth to which the ink was injected into your skin.

–          The place on which the tattoo is located will also influence the time it takes to erase it; areas with better blood flow will heal faster and will allow sessions to be made closer together time wise.

–          The procedure is somewhat uncomfortable but it doesn’t require anesthesia, it just might sting somewhat less that getting tattooed.

–          You should always have some ice packs and antibiotic ointment handy after each session to avoid infections and help with the swelling.

Before starting the procedure, you’ll be given protective eyewear and the technician will test your skin’s reaction to the laser to be able to set up the machine with the proper settings for your treatment.

So, all in all, you can get rid of that pesky mistake you got done without much hassle in an easy, non-invasive manner but do keep in mind it’s going to take some time to get it done right.

Pros and cons Between Lasers and IPL’s

ipl

Laser:

All laser machines in aesthetics are extremely precise tools for specific uses, with the ability to protect the area surrounding the treatment spot and affect only the element for which wavelength it has been designed. It’s all about precision for specific tasks.

But this accuracy is its greatest virtue and also its biggest limitation since each laser is usable for a specific kind of treatment. To be able to attend different customers with different needs, it’s necessary to have an extensive variety of machines available. For domestic use, they’re useful only for small treatment areas since it lacks the ability to cover wide areas makes treatment very slow to apply.

Price: Lasers are always more expensive machines and, due to the type of technology and risks, you don’t really want to bet on a cheap, bad quality laser.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

The Intense Pulsed Light machines are less precise than lasers but are highly versatile due to the broad spectrum of wavelength you can use. In many cases it can be more effective than laser treatments if the laser at hand isn’t suitable for the kind of follicle and/or skin toned to be treated.

Its biggest selling point is the versatility. The possibility to do many treatments with one machine: Hair Removal, Hyper pigmentation, vascular, acne, rejuvenation, etc. is, by far, an excellent added value when you invest in this technology. Maybe the most challenging aspect of an IPL will be find the right machine at the right price, since the market is full of very cheap and bad quality IPL’s that really don’t perform well, results are poor or none, and risks are high, must of them are not even approved by the FDA.

If you can find a high quality and performance IPL for a reasonable price you will get one of most profitable machines in the Medical-Medical Spa business, with a quicker ROI, great results (not so far from a laser) happy clients and more “bang for the buck”.

To conclude: Both technologies are good; you just have to identify your needs, business size, what you expect, your budget and how fast you expect your ROI to be.

Prepping for 2017

xmas_blog

“A good way to start a new year is with new machines and new technologies”… Kinda sounds like little more than a sales pitch and most of the time it is, but there’s a reason why it’s so effective. At the end of the year most people and businesses think on what use they’ll give to that extra income, and pretty much everyone is thinking about getting that sweet “something” that they’ve been wanting all year long, that new car, new clothes, big gifts , travels, etc., but among those people there are savvy business men and women who see this as an opportunity to make an investment that will make the business grow, increase earnings, be more competitive and even help in your tax filing of the year.

New businesses will want cheaper machines to start but with good quality and from brands with a good enough reputation and old businesses would like to upgrade their machines, there are a lot of specials where you can trade in your old machine, or buy a new one with many convenient holiday specials.  Whatever your case is, this could be your new year’s resolution; to start fresh and new!
And for those who still think “why change my old machine”, phrases as “looking at the big picture” or “thinking in the long-run” come into play for a couple of reasons:

– A new machine also means a fresh new warranty to offer coverage and also a decrease in the possibility of a machine going bust out of regular use.

– Newer machines are easier to get parts for and to maintain.

– Usually, new machines include a myriad of characteristics that older models don’t come with, which tend to save money, time or both. Also, being able to offer a wider range of treatments or the same old ones but in faster times and with safer procedures makes it easier to catch new customers.

– A flashy new machine tends to give customers that “it’s worth the money” feeling since they feel that the business is investing in them as much as they are in their treatments and sessions.

So, yes, in conclusion, the “start your new year with a new machine” line is most certainly a sales pitch, but one that makes a lot of sense if you think about it.

Diamond Microdermabrasion

dermabrasion

This week we’ll dedicate to a facial procedure that’s been around for a while, but still very effective as a stand-alone treatment or as a pre-treatment together with a laser session, or aqua facial, we’re talking about “Microdermabrasion”, also known as microderm, for those who aren’t familiarized with this procedure; Microderm is one of the easiest, safest and most effective anti-aging treatments you can get. It has many benefits!  It softens fine lines and wrinkles, helps to smooth coarsely textured skin, decreases the appearance of shallow scars, decreases pore size, and reduces superficial hyper-pigmentation, also known as age spots.  Microdermabrasion also makes it easier for high-tech serums and skin care products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin.  That helps build collagen, which gives skin its plump, youthful appearance.

What Happens in a Treatment?

Your skin will first of all be cleansed with a cleanser appropriate to your skin type. We then will follow with the microdermabrasion wand smoothly over your skin, we will then tone the skin, apply a hydrating mask followed by a treatment serum and moisturizer. The entire procedure should take 60 minutes.

What Will Microdermabrasion do for my skin?

Overall, microdermabrasion will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, remove acne scars, clear up blackheads, minimize the size of the pores, reduce sun damage, and even out the skin tone. Microdermabrasion also helps to boost collagen production to provide firming and toning to the complexion.

Is There Any Downtime After a Treatment?

Microdermabrasion is a safe and gentle procedure with no downtime. The client will need to protect his or her skin with moisturizer and sun block for 48 hours after the treatment and may experience mild redness and sloughing/peeling. However, the client can return to work immediately, which is why many clients prefer to have microdermabrasion treatments on their lunch breaks since there is no downtime.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

When it comes to microdermabrasion, one treatment will not provide instant results. That is why it is important to have a series of microdermabrasion services, 3 to 6 are recommended for the best results. These initial 3 to 6 treatments can be spaced one week apart, and from that point, the client can continue to receive one treatment on a monthly basis for the best maintenance.

How does a microdermabrasion treatment work on the skin?

The thickness of the epidermis is increased because new cells are being produced more rapidly and the cells themselves are larger and healthier. The cells of the lower layers of the epidermis are knitted tighter in a more consistent “basket weave” configuration, instead of a haphazard arrangement. The barrier function of the epidermis is disrupted for the first 24 to 48 hours causing the skin to be drier than usual. During the cell reproduction of cells the fibroblasts that make up the collagen fibers are increased and are thicker more tightly packed and more organized. The number of elastin fibers also increased and they are orientated vertically instead of horizontally giving the dermal layer more “spring”.

What results can I expect?

Depending on the area treated, you will notice an improvement in your skin’s appearance after your treatment. Stretch marks and acne scars will be less obvious. Age spots and fine lines are reduced, and many Microdermabrasion clients report that their skin seems softer, tighter, smoother and younger looking.

Is Microdermabrasion Effective For Men?

Men can use microdermabrasion just as women can. The procedure and results are the same; there are no side effects or risks.

Is Microdermabrasion Good For Acne Scarring?

By removing the top layer of the skin, professional micro abrasion diminishes or even removes superficial acne scarring. Deeper acne scarring requires a more invasive procedure, like a deep chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing.

What is the difference between Crystal Microdermabrasion and Diamond Microdermabrasion?

The regular crystal microdermabrasion technology involves the use of a special, hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin. At the same time, the machine’s vacuum system sucks away dirt, dead cells and used crystals.

As you can see, the pairing of an IPL / Laser machine and a microderm one will give your business an extremely wide range of treatments that would get it on the “convenient spot” for customers since it would become a “one stop for all” place where a single trip can get them multiple fast and safe procedures that would most likely cover all their needs, not to mention the fantastic results that you’ll get by using these technologies together, subject that we will develop further ahead,  keep tuned!

A few things to keep in mind while using IPL treatments

ipl

Intense pulsed light treatments for hair removal are the best option right now for hair removal since it combines a speedy treatment, low cost, ease of use and has the advantage of being applicable on a wide range of skin types.

  • It’s best to avoid other hair removal methods prior to getting an IPL treatment, such as waxing, plucking, etc. These methods leave the skin in a weaken state and makes it susceptible to breaking, besides, the more hair at the moment of the IPL treatment the better the results.
  • Do not use other methods in between sessions since it will make the IPL treatment less effective, other methods either just gets rid of the surface part of the hair while others just uproot it.
  • There should always be a “after” care. After an IPL treatment has been applied, there will be some reddening and swelling which go out on themselves after a couple of days but it’s best to use moisturizers, cold compresses or cold creams to help the skin regenerate. Also, the patient would be wise to avoid strong soaps and other hygiene products that could harm the skin.
  • Sun should be avoided for about two months since the skin will be more susceptible to burning. At the very least, if it can’t be avoided, it would be wise to use a 35 SPF (or higher) sunscreen.
  • Under normal circumstances and with standard safety procedure in place, it should take at least 6 sessions to fully remove the hair since there will be hairs in earlier growing stages that won’t be completely affected at the first sessions. A sufficient time gap between sessions should be observed so the hair grows and matures enough to be easily treated.

Advantages:

  • It can be used on a wide range of skin types.
  • It’s the closest there is to a permanent hair removal method.
  • Darker hair, which is the most visible, it’s also the easier to treat.
  • The risk of skin damage is almost non-existent.
  • The treatment is versatile enough to be adapted to most patients’ skin type.

If someone asks you what IPL is, just explaining that it’s a safe, semi-permanent hair removing procedure that uses pulses of light should be enough and right on the spot. Also remember that while undergoing the treatment; it’s a smart move to visit an IPL hair removal consultant to keep tabs on how everything is working out.
